Local-first by design.

Summary

RecallMode is designed so its core study workflow runs locally in Chrome. The extension does not require an account and does not send your study-session data to RecallMode, advertising networks, analytics providers, or other third parties in version 1.0.1.

RecallMode does not request access to the webpages you visit, browsing history, cookies, location, contacts, financial information, health information, or account credentials.

Data stored by the extension

RecallMode stores the following information locally using chrome.storage.local so the extension can remember your preferences and current session:

  • Study timing preferences
  • Break timing preferences
  • Audio preferences and volume
  • Active session state
  • Completed session totals such as study time, rest time, and break count
  • Optional recall self-ratings such as Clear, Partial, or Hard

This information remains on your device unless Chrome itself moves, clears, or removes extension storage as part of browser or device management.

Chrome permissions

Used to schedule the randomized study-break cue and the end of an active break.

Used to save settings, active session state, and completed session history locally.

offscreen

Used to play user-selected focus audio and short break-due and return tones from the Manifest V3 background workflow.

sidePanel

Used to show the persistent RecallMode study companion beside the active webpage. RecallMode does not read or modify that webpage.

Host permissions: none.

This website

The public RecallMode website is intentionally simple. The initial site does not include account creation, advertising, behavioral analytics, session replay, or a contact form that uploads information to a RecallMode database.

If you contact support by email, your email provider and our mail provider will process the message as necessary to deliver and respond to it. Do not send sensitive study material or information you do not want included in an email.

Selling, advertising, and sharing

RecallMode does not sell extension study data. RecallMode does not use extension study data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or personalized advertising. Because version 1.0.1 does not collect study-session data on a RecallMode server, RecallMode personnel do not have server-side access to that data.

Children

RecallMode is a general-purpose study utility. The extension is not designed to collect personal information from children, and version 1.0.1 does not create user accounts or transmit study-session data to RecallMode.

Changes to this policy

If RecallMode later adds an account system, cloud synchronization, analytics, or other data processing, this policy will be updated before or when those features are introduced, as applicable. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are made.
